This 8 days tour from Casablanca and cultural tour from Casablanca mixes the Sahara desert with the two most historic imperial cities of Fes and Marrakech, allowing you to experience true Moroccan Berber culture.
Discover one of Morocco’s oldest imperial cities on a guided city tour of Fes, as well as Marrakech, the Almohad imperial capital, meet locals, ride a camel, explore Kasbahs and cross valleys, spend the night in a desert tent, and watch a spectacular sunset over the golden dunes.
Your driver will meet you up at the airport and give you the rest of the day to relax while you independently explore the souks and the city’s largest square, Jemaa el Fna.
This day will start after your local guide comes to pick you up from your accommodation. Fez is a beautiful city that doesn´t fall short on the amazing things it has to offer: from artisanal crafts to traditional food, passing by souk markets… etc. You will get to experience a whole new world as you´ve never seen before.
Fes is also home to the oldest university in the world, the Karaouine University, which you will visit alongside the rest of the old Medina, a recognized UNESCO world heritage. We will walk around the narrow streets and alleyways of the old medina, as well as visit the Royal Palace and the city´s Jewish district, the Mellah.
Discover more of Marrakech’s hidden gems and fascinating locations, like the Saadian Bahia Palace, Ali Ben Youssef Koranic School, and the lovely Majorelle Gardens. Return to your customary riad in the Medina
We will start our trip toward the desert by driving past the beautiful town of Ifrane, also called the Switzerland of Morocco for its unique weather and architecture. Our first stop along the way will be to observe wild macaque monkeys in their natural habitat, at the cedar forest in Azrou. We will resume our trip to Merzouga, passing through the valley of Ziz and its impressive palm groves, and the city of Erfoud mostly known for its richness in natural fossils. Finally, we will arrive at Merzouga where we will spend the night at a traditional Riad, in the middle of the desert dunes.
After that, we continue to Ouarzazate, often known as “The Gate to the Desert,” where you can see the Atlas Studios and Kasbah Taourirt. Due to its position and the nearby castles, this small community has welcomed a number of foreign film producers. Before it earned the nickname “Hollywood of Africa.”
After that, we travel through Roses and Dades valley on our way to Dades Gorges. The date includes a typical Moroccan meal and an overnight stay in a riad or hotel in the Dades gorges.
We will start our desert exploration after having breakfast, after which we will head to the Khamlia village. We will be driving through a desert area, which means we will meet many Berber villages along the way. Once in Khamlia, you will get to explore the village that´s untouched by civilization, as well as enjoy the traditional Gnawa music that´s indigenous to the people of the area. When we are done with that, we will continue driving through a path once used by nomad locals, to experience their simplistic lifestyle.
After lunch, we will embark on our camel-trekking experience, in which you will get to ride the back of camels that will take you to the desert camp where we will spend the night. You will sleep in a traditional nomad-style tent, as you will get to gaze at the starry desert night sky.
You will walk along the 300-meter-high red cliff as you approach the Todra Gorges to engage in your favorite sport.
We will continue to Erfoud, where we will have lunch, and then go for the beautiful Erg Chebbi sand dunes in Merzouga.
When we arrive, an experienced camel guy will be ready for us to begin the camel ride and explore inside the mysterious Erg-wavy Chebbi’s sand dunes. A break will be provided for you to relax, enjoy the sunset, and go sandboarding.
A typical Berber-style nomad tent was then used before spending the night in a well-equipped desert camp. A beautiful dinner will be served, and there will be music gathering around the fire.
If you are lucky enough to wake up before sunrise, you will be able to catch a breathtaking sunrise over the desert dunes. We will then return to the 4×4 vehicles, riding on the back of camels again, to continue traveling to our next destination. We will drive by the city of Rissani, where we will make a stop at the largest traditional souk market in the area. This is the market where thousands of people from all around the south come to shop for their weekly provisions.
We will then drive to our next location: the city of Ouarzazate. Along the way, we will drive by the beautiful Todra gorges, the Dades valley, the Roses valley, and the palm groves of the Skoura oasis.
In a nearby village, you can experience the Gnawa music and way of life of people with dark skin who are originally from Sub-Saharian countries. We will make a stop in Mefes, a little deserted town known for its lead mines and minerals, en route to a nomadic family.
The hotel where you will spend the night will offer dinner. Bed and breakfast and dinner.
Our first activity of the day, after breakfast, of course, will be to drive to the star of the desert: The Kasbah of Ait Ben Heddou. This marvelous Kasbah was the filming location for many huge international movies, such as Gladiator, the Mummy, Cleopatra, and Game of thrones… You will get to freely wander around the streets of the Kasbah.
Next, we will start driving towards the city of Marrakech through the unique driveways of the High Atlas Mountains, most notably the pass of Tizi N Ntichka. We will also meet many small Berber villages along the way. Finally, we will arrive at Marrakech in the evening. This is where you will have dinner and spend the night.
After breakfast at your accommodation, your local tour guide will come to pick you up in order to begin your exploration of the red city, Marrakech. This city is home to Jamaa´ El Fna, the busiest and biggest square in North Africa that holds many traditional artisanal sellers and merchants. Marrakech has many other jewels to offer, that you will, of course, get to visit, such as the Majorelle and the Menara gardens, the Saadies tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Minaret, and many more. Finally, you will have dinner and spend the night in Marrakech.
